Building Commissioning

Building commissioning is a systematic Quality Assurance process. The primary goal of commissioning is to ensure the project's design intent is realized upon building completion and that building systems operate at their optimized level. Among the benefits to building owners are:

Independent, third party verification of proper installation and operation
Improved occupant productivity through superior environmental systems performance
Reduced likelihood of change order litigation
Highest energy efficiencies due to proper system installation

In addition to acting as an owner's commissioning authority during the construction of new buildings, Cogent Energy provides retro-commissioning services to help owners optimize the performance of existing building systems.

Many buildings have energy efficient components; however, they are not often utilized in a synergistic or optimal manner. This results in needless energy consumption at best and opens the door for litigation due to sick building syndrome (for example) at worst. As part of the retro-commissioning process, Cogent Energy performs functional tests to re-establish, or establish for the first time, the optimal functionality of the building's systems. We also develop as-built drawings and sequences of operation to document the final project design.
